bayden’s speech

SPEECH

“Bang!” Dad shot the dog! It all started when we got a phone call from our neighbor saying that there were dogs chasing our 9 month old calves. Hi my name is Bayden and today I’m going to be talking to you about some rules about having dogs on your property.
If you own a dog the first thing you need to do is register your dog, it also helps if they are microchipped so if it goes missing it will be easier to find. Secondly you need to learn how to look after your dog properly, lots of exercise, good food and water and regular visits to a vet for vaccinations will keep them well. Thirdly dogs go missing down rivers and in thick trees. Dogs should be fenced in or tied up to stop them wandering around, some dogs chase cars, animals and people if they get a chance. It’s a real good idea to train them around people and animals right from when they are puppies. I think a lot of the time it’s the owners of dogs that need to be more careful with their dogs.
Going back in february my dad had to shoot a american bull dog because they were harassing our small stock, they were chasing and biting our animals. My dad tried to call them off, they stopped for a second and then carried on. Mum said to my dad “go on shoot the dogs, we can’t have them hurting our animals like that”. My dad lined one dog up and shot it in the head. The other dog ran off in other direction, and the dog that my dad shoot ran for about 30 seconds and then it fell over in the paddock. It was dead. The other dog had ran for home. We rang dog control and he said “yes you can shoot dogs on your property if they are harassing your livestock”. We haven’t had any more problems with the neighbors dogs again.
We don’t like to shoot animals BUT we have to look after our own animals. Also that is where we ride our motorbikes and also we have Kiwi on our property and we want to protect them too. If you have a dog please care for them correctly. Thank you for listening to my speech.
